The last week and a half have been very busy for me with holidays, birthdays, and extra work shifts at my bartending job. I have managed to get a decent amount of work done on the new layered sprite animation system I am building. The initial art I created for the game was all flat sprites which didn't lend itself to much reusability of art assets.
With the new system, every animation (walk, run, jump, etc...) is drawn in layers which are then brought into the unreal engine individually. This allows me to dress characters/enemies with different hair, clothing, shoes, accessories, and much more. I am also able to color each of these layers indivudually which will allow me even more diversity with minimal work down the road.
As of this update, I'm about halfway done with the character animations. There is still a bit of work to do in the form of advanced/unlockable moves and abilities. Check out some of the killer moves you will be able to pull off as you battle your way to become the ultimate salesman.
Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for more content updates as things progress.
Welcome to the development blog for the upcoming production from Optic Scatter Games. As a one man development team, I will be posting periodic updates of my progress as development nears alpha and beta stages and finally, full release.
Dark Sales is a side scroller action RPG which takes place in a modern office setting. The combat systems and game progression draw heavily from the souls franchise for inspiration and the game is, at it's core, an homage to one of my favorite game franchises ever.
The game is being built with a pixel art aesthetic in the Unreal Engine (sounds overkill, I know). The game will available soon for pc through the epic games store and steam, with releases for consoles in the near future. Dark Sales features tough, tactical combat which rewards patience and planning. The game is still very much in it's early stages of development so most of what you see is subject to change as things progress.
Thanks for stopping by, and check back for weekly status updates on the game's development progress. Please check out the Dark Sales Facebook page too!
